Now that cooler weather is among us (at least for a few days here in The Woodlands!) it is the perfect time to come in and warm up with a new cigar. Perhaps you're in the mood for a fabulous chocolate martini to accompany your cigar of choice. And yes, I have been told that the chocolate martini at Rio24 is not just for women but men too! Having the opportunity to sample one this past week, I can proclaim that you will savor each sip as I did!

Join us Friday for the music of Phil Marquez beginning at 8:00 pm. Phil has lived here in the Houston area since 1997 and has performed with a variety of Jazz, R&B, Blues and Country bands as well as a solo artist. A talented piano player and singer, Phil blends West Coast stylings with Gulf Coast blues and New Orleans R&B and funk.

Enjoyable music, divine martinis and superb cigars...sounds like an impeccable Friday evening night out!

Join us October 27th at 7:30 when Jeff Nolan from the Oliva Cigar Company will be showcasing the best from Oliva, NUB, and Cain line of cigars.

Have you heard?

Have you heard of Derek Dunivan? If you've been to Rio24 on Friday nights over the past few weeks, you have and you know what a talented musician he is!

If you haven't heard him perform before, you should stop by this Friday between 8 and 11 at night to be truly entertained. Derek is a great performer and Rio24 has a wonderful cigar and bar selection for an enjoyable evening out on the town! Music, cigars, drinks, friends, good times...what more could you want for the beginning of a weekend?

Macallan Tasting

Join us this Thursday, Oct. 15th for as Republic National will be at Rio24 to offer a tasting of Macallan 12 Year and 15 Year. What a fabulous way to spend time with your friends or make new ones!

For those of you who know your whisky, Speyside single malts are known for their elegance, complexity and often a refined smokiness. And for those who are just learning about whisky, now you know some valuable "tidbits"!

The tasting will be from 7-10pm. We will also be offering the Macallan 18 Year for $10 off the regular price during the tasting. Now, that's a bargain and in today's world you should take advantage of any bargain you may come across!

Mmmm...Portugal Wine

Join us on October 14th at 6:00 and explore the exciting wines of Portugal. We will be offering a flight of wine for $20. The flight will include one white wine, two red wines and conclude with a port.

The white wine is from Quinta de Ameal. It is crisp with floral and fruity aromas, which is typical of well-ripened grapes from the Loureiro grape. Excellent body with a smooth, clean mouthfeel.
Both red wines come from Quinta do Portal. They are award winning smooth and spicy wines with a long finish. Their Port is young, vigorous and made from the traditional red varieties of the Douro Region.

Who knows...maybe after this evening you'll feel the need for a little trip to Europe's West Coast to enjoy Portugal.

Scotch Anyone?

Join us tomorrow evening as representatives from the Chivas Regal Company will be at Rio24 Cigars to introduce the Chivas Regal 18 yr scotch. What a nice way to spend a Thursday! Try a new drink and while you're here, pick out a new cigar you've never tried. It's good to try something new every once in a while...rumour is that it will keep you young!

Tomorrow is the beginning of another weekend! You've made it through another week and it is now time to relax. Rio24 is the perfect place for you! Tomorrow evening we welcome back a Rio regular... Derek Dunivan. Choose a cigar from the humidor, a drink from the bar and a great seat to sit back, relax and listen to some fantastic music. For those of you who like new "tidbits" of information, here's a little trivia for you...Derek recently married Rio24's own Lucy just a few weeks ago! Congratulations to both of them!

Which Day Is For You?

Which day is your favorite day of the week? OK, which day is your favorite after Friday and Saturday? To help you out with that difficult decision, Rio24 is offering a little "incentive" for those days which can be sometimes, well sort of ho-hum. Here's a sampling of what we have to offer during the week:

• Sunday: $2.00 of any single malt or blended scotch
• Monday: $4.00 craft beer
• Tuesday: $2.00 off any martini
• Wednesday: $2.00 off any wine by the glass

Now that's something to cheer about! So maybe now your preferred day is Sunday AND Monday AND Tuesday, etc. Rio is here for you no matter what day of the week it is!

HE'S BAAAAAACK

Rocky Patel returned to Rio24 on Saturday for another night of enjoyment! A few refreshments and welcome conversation with good friends always make for an exquisite evening of fun.

Surprise Visitor

This past Thursday Rio24 had a very special surprise guest...Rocky Patel! That's right, the Rocky Patel...the man who has a rated 95 cigar and three others rated in the high 90's. He had been hearing a lot about Rio and wanted to come check it out for himself. When you visit Rio, you just never know who you'll see! I wonder who may stop by this week? This proves a point...it's a darn good thing phones have cameras nowadays because it would be a sad day to miss a picture perfect opportunity!

Customers Talked, We Listened!

Our customers have spoken and the decision is unanimous...live music on Friday nights! This Friday for our entertainment we gladly bring back The George Poe Trio from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm. This groups plays a fabulous blend of jazz and pop. With music from the 30's to the 80's they are sure to entertain every age...not that age matters when it comes to music! Sometimes at Rio24 the music is just too good to sit and listen to and you've got to dance...we found out last week we even have the room for that if the mood strikes you!

Fun During the Week? Why Not!

Who said the workweek needs to be boring and all the fun should happen on the weekend? One can't be expected to possibly live life only having fun on Friday and Saturday nights. To help you spread out your recreation during your week, Rio24 will be unwinding a bit with a cigar tasting this coming Tuesday. We know, Tuesday night? Weekly Happenings

This past week brought Rio24 a premium rum tasting event on Thursday, an assortment of cigars to add to the humidor and live entertainment on Friday. This coming Friday we'll be entertained by the Kelley Peters Trio. For those of you who were able to join us at our Grand Opening, you'll remember this talented trio and they'll be sure to captivate us once again with their talents.

What are your plans for Friday? With Monday being a holiday, it's already time to start planning for the weekend! Stop by Friday and enjoy a nice scotch and a full bodied cigar from our humidor while listening to the music of The Groove Dawgs. This trio is sure to entertain you and let you begin unwinding from another busy week.

As we have a little time to relax this Labor Day weekend, we thought we would share with you a few new pcitures of Rio24. Stop by and relax here while we take care of you. There are honestly some seats in here that you really won't want to get out of once you sit down! And if that's the case, you might as well enjoy a cigar and a nice glass of wine!

Another Friday, More Music!

Rio24 was very lucky last Friday to enjoy a very talented musician by the name of Derek Dunivan. A Houston-area musician and producer, he's been playing music professionally since he was 13! Derek has been fortunate to have performed with many artists throughout his career. Maybe you'll recognize a few names...Steven Tyler, AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Kelly Osbourne. He entertained Rio24 with hits from the Beatles to Prince to Otis Redding. Some customers just couldn't sit there and enjoy their cigar and drink....they joined in with the singing. It was definitely a fun night had by all. Derek will be performing again this Friday, August 28th at 8:00. You'll certainly want to stop by and have some fun!

Join us Friday, August 14th for live music by the George Poe Trio. They will begin playing around 8:00 pm so get there early for a good spot! This is truly a fabulous trio playing music from the '30s to the '80s. This band is great at being able to "blur the lines between the classics, blues, pop, R&B and jazz". Get ready to sit back, relax and listen to some fantastic musicians!

Open For Business

RIO24 opened their doors on July 10th and had a very successful first week! Our grand opening was Friday, July 17th and we all had a great time. The Kelley Peters Trio provided the perfect music for the evening and Hubble and Hudson provided fabulous hors d'oeuvres. Cigars, drinks, and good friends of course were the main course for the night! We were glad to see so many people there and for those who were unable to attend, feel free to stop by sometime this week.

What's In a Name?

Our humidor is home to not only cigars but also to Spanish cedar cigar lockers. Members of these private lockers choose the name or alias they wish to be engraved on the name plate for all to see. In having these engraved, we began to wonder what these names mean to the members who are choosing them. Here are a few we've engraved so far: Doug P., 6-Pack, My Friends, GWF and CAL-737. If you were choosing a name for a locker, what would your name be? Would your friends be able to identify your locker out of many just by the name you had engraved? Stop by soon and see if there are any you may recognize!

You've come to the right place! As we watched the lockers going up today in the humidor, we reflected a bit on the variety of cigars Rio24 will have available for our customers. We will have something for everyone from the novice cigar enthusiast to the more experienced cigar aficionado. While offering over 320 different kinds of premium cigars, we are sure everyone will find one, or several, to their liking!
